Working for Nigel Slater

Here on the blog I will be sharing what is going on behind the scenes at the Cookery School and believe me, there is a lot! This month has been a particularly special one, as well as launching our brand new website, my named appeared on BBC1!

If you haven’t seen it yet, tune in on Monday nights at 7.30pm for Nigel Slater’s, Eating Together. Last year, I happened to mention to an acquaintance that Nigel Slater was my all-time food hero. Now this person not only knew Nigel, but was due to work with him on his new series and before I knew it I was signing secrecy contracts and part of the Home Economics team working on the show!

The schedule was pretty grueling with ten or twelve  hour days cooking for Nigel and the crew during filming – but so worth it. I met some amazing people and it really was a great honour to work with Nigel who was every bit as likeable and caring as I had imagined he would be. His approach to food and cooking is very much in line with my own beliefs and ethos – one that I try to bring in to the Cookery School every day.  My personal highlight was Nigel saying I made the best Flatbreads he has ever tasted – which is a great boost as I have plans to develop the Forest Flatbread for production and put the Forest of Dean on the map in the same way the Cornish Pasty has done for Cornwall!

If you haven’t seen it yet, the series sees Nigel Slater meet devoted home cooks across multi-cultural Britain to highlight the amazing diversity and richness we have on our doorstep. It’s a really great watch and I’m in the credits! So my next challenge – to get Nigel to come to the Cookery School of-course!
Happy watching!
